It’s not fancy but the staff is super cool and nice. Burgers are surprising good (get egg and onion added). Friendly with my kids and always seems to be room. No patio, which is a downside. The rest makes up for it.

Sometimes Barcelona gives you a small film without warning. It was a sunny autumn Saturday — warm light, cool breeze, the smell of bread and olives floating through the narrow streets of Sarrià. I stumbled upon the local market: cheese stands, clothes, olives, chatter… and then, Bar Monterrey. One of the few true neighborhood bars still standing — small tables, familiar voices, time moving at its own pace. The terrace was full, but there was an older gentleman, maybe in his eighties, sitting alone. I asked if I could share the table. He smiled and said, “Of course, you’re very welcome.” His name was Giuseppe, born in Sigles, a lifelong Sarrià local. Soon Paco, the waiter, joined in, they both suggested I go for the plato combinado and a cold caña. We spent a long time talking about Spain, Latin America, and everything in between. Nothing planned, everything perfect. The kind of afternoon that reminds you why local bars are the real soul of a city. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
